Use the Chart view in Custom reports

3 min read

Who can use this feature

Rights: the Read right on Custom reports to display a report as a chart. Setting which view a report opens on is part of configuring it and takes an administrator.

Location: the Custom Reports page, inside a report

Overview

The chart view draws the report you already built: it reuses its rows, its column and its KPIs rather than offering a separate set of dimensions and metrics, so what you choose here is the shape, not the data.

  1. Switch to the chart. In the report, enable Display Chart View, then open the Chart tab.
  1. Choose a chart type. Click one of the icons in the chart type row. Available types are :

    • Primary axis: metric(s) shown as bars, on the left-hand scale
    • Secondary axis: metric(s) shown as a line, on the right-hand scale

  1. Set the axes. Pick the field for X-axis and one or more metrics for Y-axis (up to 4), plus one or more metrics on Secondary Y-axis (up to 4).
Nothing is drawn until at least one metric sits on Y-axis, which is the usual reason a chart area stays empty.
  1. Fill in what your chart type adds.
    • A donut chart takes its categories from the field on X-axis and draws one donut per metric on Y-axis.
    • A scatter plot replaces the secondary axis with a Horizontal axis field.
    • A bubble chart adds a Size field, and stays empty until you set it.
  1. Save the view. Click on Save to choose which view (Table or Chart) will be displayed by default when opening the report.

  • Read the values. The gear icon exposes Show data labels, which prints the values on the chart itself,
  • Take the chart with you. The image icon downloads the chart as a PNG.
  • Start over if needed. Reset clears the chart type and the axis selection.
